Description
Catena makes outstanding Chardonnay and the much sought-after White Stones is named after the limestone covered stones which lie in the subsoil, allowing for ideal drainage and deep root growth. These are very poor soils where the vines are constantly in conditions of stress. It sounds bizarre, but these are the perfect conditions for the creation of incredible and complex wines.
The grapes for this wine come from just 27 specifically selected rows within Block 1 of the Adrianna vineyard. And sitting at around 5,000ft elevation, cool nights allow for very slow ripening, optimal acid retention and low yields.
White Stones delivers precise citrus fruit with a delicate nutty edge from ageing in French oak. It’s superbly balanced with fresh acidity. I’d be drinking this now, but I’m inpatient! It certainly has the structure to age beautifully for another 1-2 years.
