Aussie Chardonnay is making a come back, but you can expect much more elegance than the clumsily oaked wines you may remember from the 90s. The Penfolds Bin 311 is an absolute delight. Plenty of citrus, white stone fruit, fresh apricot on the nose is balanced by a wonderful creamy texture from ageing in a combination of first and second use barrels. The idea of using second use means that there are less oaky flavours in the wine, it’s more about creating texture and mouthfeel. Delicious!
